Nepal Minute - out of the ordinary

Nepal

Inspector General of Nepal Police, Dhiraj Pratap Singh, has urged his colleagues to stay prepared for security challenges ahead of November 20 elections.

IGP Singh gave the direction while virtually addressing the Chiefs of Province Police, Province Training Centre, District Police, Province Traffic Police, and Battalion.

Security arrangements must not be compromised, he said, adding, "The security situation so far remains positive."

The strategy prepared at the central level should reach provinces, districts and local units, he said.

Singh further added that "the election is a grand national political event, so every challenge must be coped with effectively". He urged officers to remain alert at all times.

The professionalism of the commander is reflected by the behaviour of security staff mobilised at the election booth. The role of commander will be recognised, Singh assured.

He said: "It is time to effectively and honestly carry out the responsibility offered by the State so that election to the House of Representatives and the provincial assemblies would be held in a free, fair, and peaceful atmosphere."

Additional Inspector General of Nepal Police, who is also the coordinator of central election cell, Dibesh Lohani, urged his colleagues to work hard so that elections are held in a peaceful environment. -RSS
