Elections 2022
The flood-affected community living along the Banhara-Doda River of Shuklaphanta Municipality-12 in the district has demanded that the candidates seeking their votes help resolve their problem.
The community members also formed a struggle committee to mount collective pressure on the election candidates. The recent flood-displaced as many as 27 households.
"In the past, many candidates assured us that they would work for our cause. But hardly anyone has kept their words," said Laxman Rana, a flood survivor.
"That's why we are urging them to make written commitment this time," Rana said, adding that only party cadres had reached them for votes, not the candidates.
They have prepared a commitment paper to make things easier for the candidates.
It reads: "We're committed to building an embankment by making long-term project similar to Mahakali to protect the settlements of Tilki, Dubaha, Amghat, Dammalpatti, Aglipatti, Badbaika along the banks of Doda River. We resign from the post if we fail to accomplish it in three years."
Chairperson of the Community Disaster Management Committee, Mangal Chaudhary, urged eligible candidates to reach out to the settlements affected by flooding. He said they could approach the flood-affected household at least twice a year - not only during election campaigning. - RSS
