Three people were killed and 12 injured in a jeep accident in Pyuthan District on Tuesday night some 250 km west of Kathmandu.

They were returning after observing a 'poornima mela', a religious fair in Khaira, Pyuthan Municipality's Ward number 1. The jeep carrying locals of Patal Kateri, Pyuthan Municipality-5 met an accident at local Purnagaun.

Pyuthan Municipality-5 Ward Chairperson Choodamani Thapa said that 52-year-old Maiya Gharti, 45-year-old Khuman Thapa and 43-year-old Junaki Thapa of Patal Kateri died on the spot.

The injured are receiving treatment at the District Hospital Bijuwar. 

Locals and a team from the Area Police Office Bijuwar rescued the injured persons and took them to the hospital.

The cause of the accident is not known yet and the jeep driver Binod KM is absconding. Police said 17 people were travelling on the jeep. - RSS
