Three Nepali teams are competing in the PUBG Mobile Global Championship (PMGC) 2022 which kicks off in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, at 4pm (NST) on Thursday.
A total 51 teams from across the world are vying for the top honours in the competition that carries a purse of $4 million.
The event constitutes two stages - league and grand finals which will be held in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta, Indonesia.
Nepali teams DRS Gaming, Skylightz Gaming and Trained to Kill (T2k) secured their berths in the global event on the back of impressive results in the PUBG Mobile Pro League (PMPL) South Asia Championship Fall 2022 in October
DRS Gaming finished runners-up to Mongolian side Godlike Stalwart in the event, with Skylightz Gaming and Trained to Kill coming in third and fifth positions, respectively. The event was broadcast live on a large screen at a cinema theatre for the first time in Kathmandu.
The PMGC 2022 is the first LAN event for the global championship, as the past two editions were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The global championship is divided into two major events – League and Grand Finals.
The league games, scheduled for November 10 until December 4 over three stages in Kuala Lumpur, will see 13 teams advancing to the grand finals, with three invited teams making direct entries.
The Grand Finals will take place from January 6 to 8, 2023 in Jakarta, Indonesia, where 16 teams will fight each other in pursuit of the top slot in PUBG Mobile.
The entire event – both league and grand finals – will be broadcast live on various social media platforms, including YouTube.
