Elections 2022
The Nepal-India border in Dhanusha district will be sealed for the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives (HoR) and the Province Assemblies (PA), according to authorities.
The border will get cordoned off for 72 hours before the November 20 elections considering the possible security threats during the polls, said Surendra Paudel, the Dhanusha Chief District Officer.
The decision was made at a joint meeting of security officials of both countries held recently at Jainagar in Madhubani district in India.
“The meeting also discussed issues concerning people's mobility across the border, encroachment and management of the no-man's land, the internal security of both the countries and smuggling of narcotic drugs and alcohol illegally,” said Paudel.
Paudel led the meeting on behalf of Nepal and Madhubani District Magistrate Arvind Kumar Verma represented India.
Meanwhile, approximately 10 per cent of the total votes were invalid in mock voting organised in Janakpurdham Sub-metropolitan City-14 targeting the upcoming HoR and PA elections.
Out of the total 55 votes cast, approximately 10 per cent were invalid, said Samjhana Kumari Raut of the Samagra Bikas Sewa Kendra, a local organisation that conducted the drill as part of the voters' education programme. - RSS
