Elections 2022
Rastriya Swatantra Party has claimed that supporters of the ruling alliance vandalised a vehicle carrying its President Rabi Lamichhane in Chitwan, where he was attending an election rally.
The ruling alliance which has thrown its weight behind Nepali Congress candidate Umesh Shrestha has not owned up to the alleged attack.
Lamichhane was not hurt, and videos circulating on social media show him claiming that “it was an attack against him”. The incident came a week before Nepal goes to the polls to elect new members of the parliament and provincial assemblies.
The incident took place near Kurintar along the Prithvi Highway in Chitwan on Sunday afternoon. WATCH embedded video captured after the alleged attack, which is shared by Rastriya Swatantra Party on its Facebook page.

The video shows an unidentified man climbing on top of the vehicle and kicking the windscreen.
In its post, the RSP wrote: “Today, the party president's vehicle was attacked. The state, which should hold elections in a fair and fearless environment, has become a joke. The inability of those who are running the state to maintain peace and security has been exposed once again.”
Lamichhane is contesting the election from Chitwan-2 for a member of the House of Representatives. Nepali Congress’ Shrestha and CPN-UML’s Krishna Bhakta Pokhrel are also on the election battleground.
