Elections 2022
The Supreme Court has decided to uphold its previous decision to continue the candidacy of Dr Toshima Karki, who is contesting the election from Lalitpur-3 for a seat in the House of Representatives.
On Monday, a division bench of Justices Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada and Til Prasad Shrestha decided to uphold the interim order issued earlier.
After the court verdict, Dr Karki took to her Facebook to welcome the decision. “Today, again the honourable Supreme Court decided to maintain my candidacy, proving that the truth does not waver. Thank you again to everyone who stood for justice,” she wrote.
On November 1, the single bench of Justice Kumar Chudal issued an interim order in favour of Dr Karki's candidacy. On November 6 the Election Commission filed a petition at the Supreme Court to vacate the November 1 decision.
On October 29, the commission disqualified Dr Karki’s candidacy, saying she held a public post as an elected member of the Nepal Medical Council. On October 31, Karki challenged the commission’s decision in the apex court.
