Elections 2022
The government has declared a two-day public holiday for the upcoming elections to the members of the House of Representatives and Province Assemblies. The elections will take place on November 20.
In a public notice released on Tuesday, the Ministry of Home Affairs has announced public holidays on November 20 and 21 for all government, non-government offices, industries, business establishments, including banks.
The notice, issued by Ministry spokesperson Fanindra Mani Pokharel, has said educational institutions, including schools, which will serve as polling stations, will remain closed for four days, beginning November 18.
The Election Commission had earlier urged the government to announce public holidays on those days to encourage working professionals to vote in the elections for better voter turnout.
Meanwhile, Tribhuvan University has also announced that all its campuses and offices across the country will remain closed from November 17-21. Most of the university campuses will serve as polling stations on polling day.
Yogendra Prasad Dahal, the head of the University Information and Public Relations Division, said the leave was decided to be given as it was seen that the daily work of the university would be affected due to the presence of vote counting centres in some campuses.
Similarly, the Tribhuvan International Airport Office has also stated that except for charter flights, there will be no regular domestic flights on November 20.
