Forty-nine wild animals have died in the Chitwan National Park (CNP) in four months. Spotted deer accounted for the highest number of deaths, with 28 deaths.
Ganesh Prasad Tiwari, information officer at the CNP, said 17 animals died in dog attacks, one in a road accident and another was stuck in a bog.
Park officials According to him, two one-horned rhinos have died in CNP in the last four months. One died of a natural cause (ageing, illness or tiger attack), while the other died due to electrocution.
Similarly, the CNP statistics show that one state-domesticated elephant and another private elephant died of natural causes. In addition, three wild buffaloes, one cheetah, three blue bulls, two tortoises, a laguna deer, and three gharial crocodiles died of natural causes.
One deer died due to natural causes, and another due to a dog attack. A boar also died. Spotted deer has the largest population among animals in the CNP, park’s Conservation Officer Hari Bhadra Acharya said.
