Elections 2022
The Election Commission has said that around 32 per cent voters have cast their votes till 12:45 pm on Sunday.
EC Spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Paudel told a press conference: "Comparatively lower number of voters cast their ballot in the morning, which might be due to cold weather. However, voters started increasing after 10am."
"Besides few cases of disruption, voting is ongoing in a smooth and peaceful manner. So far, we have not received complete data but as per our calculation, 32 per cent voters have exercised their voting right till 12:45pm," said Paudel.
Reports say polling has been affected at several places, including Bajura, Rautahat, Dolakha and Gulmi. But EC officials hoped that minors issues would be resolved amicably.
"Voting was disrupted in some places including Surkhet, Palpa, Pokhara, Palpa and Jhapa, but it has already resumed now. In some places, talks are ongoing between political parties and candidates for the smooth voting process under the direction of EC," he said.
And added: "We have directed the election officers to refrain from issuing notice of postponement of election in the disrupted locations until 5:00pm."
Where ever problems have occurred, he said, officials have been asked to consult EC before deciding to postpone polls.
Paudel further said that the counting of votes might begin in some places before midnight after the ballot boxes reach respective counting centres.
Meanwhile, the EC has asked voters to call their call centre's toll free number - 1102 - if their names are not found in the voter's list.
The election to members of the House of Representatives and Provincial Assemblies is taking place across all 77 districts in the country on Sunday.
There are 17,988,570 eligible voters who will cast their votes on four different ballot papers for the first-past-the-post (FPTP) and the proportional representation system.
