The police have started an investigation into the citizenship of Rastriya Swatantra Party President Rabi Lamichhane after a complaint was lodged with Home Ministry on November 22. According to the complaint, Lamichhane submitted an invalid citizenship while filing his nomination paper to contest the November election for the House of Representatives from Chitwan 2. 

The Ministry had written a letter to the District Administration Office Kathmandu enquiring about the case. The DAO instructed the District Police Range to investigate Lamichhane's citizenship saying that there were issues that need to be assessed. 

Tek Prasad Rai, spokesperson at Nepal Police said: “We have received the letter from the District Administration Office regarding the citizenship issue of Lamichhane. We are investigating the case.”
