The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) cleaned the premises of 89 community schools on Tuesday.
The activity was part of the KMC's week-long celebration of the 28th Metropolitan City Day. According to KMC Environment Department Chief Sarita Rai, the metropolis has donated cleaning products and tools to the schools in order to maintain them nice and clean.
Parents, teachers, and community members all pitched in to help with the cleanup.
Under the week-long programmes marking KMC Day, the metropolis has already conducted the cleaning of rivers, world heritage sites and open public spaces, and organised art, essay, and elocution competitions.
The KMC will honour gurus, hold a health camp, and distribute prizes and letters of appreciation in a variety of genres on December 15. In this regard, the city will dedicate a fire engine stationed in the Balaju Industrial Estate.
Kathmandu, previously known as the Kathmandu Municipality, was designated a Metropolitan City on December 15, 1995. Going back much earlier, Kathmandu's municipal status dates back to the founding of the 'Safai Adda (Sanitation Office)' on Poush 2, 1976 BS.
