Kathmandu Metropolitan City has donated Rs1 million to the earthquake victims of Purvi Chauki Rural Municipality of Doti.
A 6.6 Richter Scale earthquake on November 9 killed six people and destroyed nearly 3,800 houses in the village in Sudurpaschim hills.
KMC Mayor Balen Shah said in a Facebook post: "We got information about the problems of the earthquake victims and we have provided some financial support. We hope that with our help, the problems of the victims will be resolved to some extent."
Kathmandu Metropolitan City handed over the donation to Chairperson of Purvi Chowki Rural Municipality, Ram Prasad Upadhaya.
The donation was allocated from KMC’s disaster management fund. Stating that the victims are living in flimsy huts in the harsh cold weather, he stated that the temporary shelter can’t be a long-term solution.
Balen Shah urged the state machinery, related ministries, MPs, governmental non-governmental organisations plus individuals to provide help to the Doti Earthquake victims.
Seismologists say Doti Earthquake is one of the few large earthquakes to occur in western Nepal in the past 500 years and Nepal being in a seismically active zone is under the constant threat of earthquakes.
