Nepal Minute - out of the ordinary

Travel & Tourism

Authorities at Pathibhara, a famous religious shrine in Taplejung district, have imposed restrictions on the use of drones in and around the temple area.

The Pathibhara Area Development Committee issued a notice on Thursday prohibiting the use of drones for photography and other purposes in the area due to religious and cultural heritage, security sensitivity, airway disruptions, and individual secrecy.

Such activities require permission from the relevant authorities, according to committee Chairperson Rakki Thebe.

Drone flying procedures issued in 2072 BS prohibit flying drones within one kilometre of religious and cultural heritage sites, threatening security, airway service, and individual privacy.

A permit to fly drones is granted only after a proper evaluation of the application by the Home Ministry, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, and the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal.
