Nepal Minute - out of the ordinary

Nepal

The government is preparing to install five high-capacity electic vehicle (EV) charging stations, each with a 30-kilowatt capacity, at Singha Durbar, the country's administrative headquarters.

The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation has invited bid bids from interested contractors under the Energy Development Decade Action Plan Project.

According to Senior Divisional Engineer at the project, Shalikram Bhandari, the charging stations will be installed at various locations on the Singha Durbar premises.

In 2021, the government announced that it would shift from lightweight petrol vehicles to electric vehicles entirely by 2031.

In line with that, NEA has already established 51 charging stations across Nepal, of which it says 12 are already functional and the rest are coming online soon.
