Mortal remains of some of the passengers killed in the Yeti Airlines ATR-72 plane crash in Pokhara will be transported to Kathmandu.

According to the authorities, the mortal remains of the crew members, foreign citizens, and those with their homes in Kathmandu are to be transported to the capital.

The postmortem examinations of the victims from Pokhara are to be conducted in Pokhara itself before handing the mortal remains to the families and relatives, said Anil Kumar Shahi, Assistant Chief District Officer of Kaski.

Preparations have been made for the purpose of conducting the postmortem, and it will still take some time for the procedural arrangements, he said.

According to Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) General Manager Premnath Thakur, a three-member specialist team from the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital is visiting Pokhara to handle the postmortem procedures.

The Yeti Airlines plane that took off at 10:33am from the TIA for Pokhara on Sunday crashed in the Seti River Gorge minutes before landing. All 72 people, including four crew members, on board the ill-fated plane were killed.

The Nepali Army, the Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force and the TIA’s rescue and firefighting team continue rescue operations at the crash site.
