A team of foreign insurance surveyors and lawyers arrived in Nepal on Monday to evaluate the damages incurred in the Yeti Airlines ATR-72 plane crash in Pokhara on Sunday morning.
According to the Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA), the insurance surveyors' team from Singapore and lawyers from India would assess the extent of damaged properties and liabilities in the fatal air crash.
The plane, registered with the call sign 9N-ANC, took off from Kathmandu for Pokhara with 68 passengers and four crew members. But minutes before landing, the aircraft crashed into the Seti River gorge, killing everyone on board.
Authority's Spokesperson Raju Raman Poudel divulged that the British company that was an insurance broker assigned insurance surveyors from Singapore.
Poudel assured that there would not be any issues with the payment of insurance claims for the passengers in the crash. He explained that the insurance company also reinsures with another company. Once the amount is released by reinsurance, the insurance company will release the payment for the claims. He said that payments are made based on the report of the post-mortem of the deceased.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) says that each passenger on the plane has a $20,000 insurance policy. On the other hand, the amount of insurance coverage is different for each crew member, CAAN said.
Poudel said the National Risk Reduction and Management Executive Committee meeting held at Singha Durbar on Monday instructed the relevant authority to facilitate the insurance payment to the families of the deceased.
According to him, the Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers has also raised concerns regarding the settlement of insurance claims. The authority has assured OPMCM that there will not be any issues with the payment of insurance claims.
