Nepal Minute - out of the ordinary

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is preparing to distribute National Identity cards to people from each ward office, beginning January 29.

The metropolis’ announcement follows public complaints that they were unable to obtain their National ID cards on time since they were only available from one location.

According to KMC spokesperson Nabin Manandhar, talks are going on with the relevant groups about distributing National ID cards in this regard.

"KMC is in discussion with the Department of National ID and Civil Registration about providing the service from all 32 KMC ward offices," Manandhar said, assuring that all the ward offices would start the distribution of the ID cards from January 29.

Up until now, the department has produced National ID cards and distributed them to the general public through the District Administration Office in each district or other designated locations.
