Police have netted a prankster who recorded and posted a video of him threatening a woman with acid attack. He was arrested hours after the video started going viral on social media.

According to Nepal Police’s newsroom, the arrested prankster, Purnachandra Bhusal, popularly known as Pradip Bhusal, 26, who is a resident of Giruwari Tol, Hupsekot rural municipality-3, Nawalparasi East, was arrested following a brief manhunt.

A team of officials from the Cyber Bureau arrested Bhusal Monday with the help of Nawalparasi police. He owned and operated a YouTube channel called ‘BADMAS KTA’ from his base in Kawasoti in Nawalparasi.

Officials say he terrorised a local woman who was walking on the street by saying he would attack her with acid if she did not give him money, mobile phone or jewellery. The video clip has been widely shared on social media.

Police said further investigations are on after the District Court in Kathmandu remanded him in custody for seven days.

The arrest follows repeated warnings from Cyber Bureau against misuse of social media channels and posting of objectionable and abusive materials targeting women, children or materials that negatively influence ongoing investigations or that hurt the harmonious relationships between Nepal’s diverse religious and ethnic groups.
