US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland has said that the US wants Nepal to make its own decisions about its national interests.
At a press conference on Monday, Nuland, who arrived on Sunday on a two-day visit, said that the US wants to work with Nepal and build strong economic ties with it. She also said the US would be happy if Nepal got along well with its neighbouring countries.
Nuland said she held discussions on various issues of bilateral interests during her meetings with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli, and Foreign Minister Dr Bimala Rai Poudel.
Similarly, discussions were held on the issues, including the next step of implementing MCC, the transitional justice process, and building an environment to increase US investment in Nepal.
She expressed pride in informing Nepal's green energy, electrification, small and middle-scale women enterprises of the United States' support over the next five years. She also mentioned the United States' support and collaboration for Nepal's education, health, agriculture, tourism, and economic sectors and the strengthening of democracy.
On Monday, she visited various cultural heritage sites in Lalitpur's Patan Durbar Square.
