A day after arriving in Nepal, US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Affairs Donald Lu held met with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and Minister of Foreign Affairs Narayan Khadka.
The US Embassy in Kathmandu said in a tweet that the two sides discussed a “range of issues”, including “75 years of US-Nepal partnership and our strong people-to-people ties”
It was unclear if they discussed the controversy surrounding the US State Partnership Program (SPP) that Nepal wished to join but later rejected after a heated debate inside and outside the parliament.
Lu arrived in Kathmandu on Friday on a two-day visit, described by the Embassy as “regular”. Before returning, he is scheduled to hold talks with several business and political leaders.
