Despite his tight schedule, US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Affairs Donald Lu has got some time off to share his love story that started in Nepal in 1993.

Here’s how it goes -

A young Donald Lu meets Ariel - who later became his better half - somewhere near Darjeeling, West Bengal, India. Then the two travel together and enter Nepal in an auto-rickshaw. 

Enjoying the country and its landscapes, they travelled across the Terai region, including Janakpur and Chitwan National Park, before arriving in Kathmandu.

The two, as Lu recalled, fell in love in Nepal - and later got married. The couple, married for 26 years, has two kids, Aalia and Kipling - names inspired by South Asia.

Towards the end of the video, Lu says, “Nepal is a place that will always be close to my heart – because this is where I first fell in love.”
