Under “Be (v) the Change”, a new campaign of Hyundai Nepal to promote sustainability-focused actions, Hyundai Nepal planted over 200 trees on Saturday, August 20.
Around 150 electric vehicles (EV), including KONA and IONIQ 5 customers of all age groups participated in the plantation program, organized in coordination with Ratomate Dada community forest at Chunikhel, Budhanilkantha Municipality, Kathmandu.
The term Be (v) corresponds to Battery Electric Vehicles, which Hyundai calls “the new norm for carbon neutrality”, and thus “Be (v) the Change” acts as a call for “sustainability-focused actions for the adoption of sustainable practices at an individual and community level”.
Hyundai Nepal said in the press release: “The tree plantation is one of the early steps undertaken under this initiative with a view to compensate for the carbon footprint created by fossil fuel vehicles.”
Nearly a year ago, South Korean car manufacturer Hyundai Motors, the parent company of Hyundai Nepal pledged for carbon-neutrality by 2045 – five years earlier than the global target of 2050.
This April, the company launched a global campaign, entitled the “Goal of the Century” that aims to “utilize the global appeal of football” to send a message and “unite football lovers and others around sustainable living”.
Hyundai Motors said: “The Company has been making significant investments in its journey towards carbon neutrality and plans to have 23 eco-friendly vehicle line-ups and one million electric vehicles by 2025.”
Echoing the same sustainability goal, Hyundai Nepal said it plans to organize other “sustainability-focused activities under the “Be (v) the Change” initiative in days to come”.
