Nepal Minute - out of the ordinary

Nepal

Niharika Rajput has broken her fast-unto-death following a three-point agreement with the government.

The agreement was reached between the Chief District Officer, Kathmandu, Govinda Prasad Rijal and Rajput on Sunday night.

Rajput, who was on hunger strike for the past 17 days, broke her strike in the presence of Minister for Law Govinda 'Bandi'.

Government advocate on behalf of the writ petitioner would as per request of Rajput demand a DNA test in the case that is sub-judice in the High Court, Janakpur, according to the agreement.

Rajput, a single mother, had long been protesting demanding justice for her and her son.

She has accused Shivaraj Shrestha of Janakpur of raping her when she was 17 years old.

She gave birth to a son after becoming pregnant resulting from the rape.
