Nepal Minute - out of the ordinary

Nepal

Capping an eventful day when he led demolition of "illegally built" structures around town, Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Mayor Balendra Shah on Thursday managed to shake his body as he danced with his female colleagues.

KMC had organised Teej programme for women employees at the city hall called Rastriya Sabha Griha, where Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol too was present.

Teej is a festival celebrated by Hindu women. This year, Teej festival falls on August 30.

Balen Shah, who was in the New Baneshwor and Shankhamul area the whole day clearing and demolishing illegal structures, reached there after a meeting in the evening to celebrate Teej with his female colleagues.

Mayor Shah also danced to some Teej songs like Teeja ko Rahar Ayo Barilai with the women employees of the metropolis.

The video of him dancing with the employees has gone viral on social media like TikTok and Facebook.

However, the deputy mayor was not seen dancing.

Nabin Manandhar, spokesperson at the Kathmandu Metropolis said, the teej programme was organised at Rastriya Sabha Griha at 1:00 pm.

“The programme was organised by Deputy Mayor Dangol. Mayor Balen reached there later in the evening after the meeting was over.”

But the Dar, a midnight food consumption for the fasting of the next day, which is customary to eat a day before fasting, has already started a week before the festival.
