Elections 2022
Several independent candidates looking to contest in federal and provincial elections due on November 20 have come under a single umbrella, announcing the walking stick as their election symbol.
Nine independent candidates on Thursday joined the ‘Stick Campaign’.
Walking stick was the election symbol of Balendra Shah and Harka Sampang, the popular mayoral candidates of Kathmandu and Dharan, respectively. Both achieved landslide victory in the local elections held in May.
Suman Sayami, the coordinator of the Campaign for Independent and Alternative Candidates said most independent candidates are opting for the walking stick as election symbol ahead of November 20 elections.
Sayami was an independent mayoral candidate in Kathmandu in the May election. Pitted against Balendra Shah, his election symbol was traditional window.
He doesn't seem tired just yet. Ahead of the November 20 elections, he has announced his candidacy from Kathmandu-8.
Other candidates who have joined the ‘Stick Campaign’ include: Madhusudan Pathak ‘Site Baa’ from Kathmandu-5; Bidhya Shrestha from Kathmandu 9;
Darostav Lokendra from Bhaktapur-2; Sirish Gurung from Kaski-2; Rahul Mishra from Rautahat-1; Bhishma Rana from Rupandehi-5; and Gajendra Mahato from Udaypur.
