Morgan Freeman, a renowned Hollywood actor, took to social media yesterday to remember the days when he visited Nepal for his show ‘Story of God’ and fully immersed himself into the Dashain culture of the country.
He wrote: “Elevating spirit above our basic tendencies is both metaphorical and literal for the Nepalis during the two-week celebration of #Dashain.”
The ‘Shawshank Redemption’ actor also went on to explain the meaning of the festival and said “Dashain is more than the victory of good over evil - it’s acknowledging the battles that take place within ourselves and freeing up our spirit to welcome all the goodness in the world.”
He concluded his Facebook, Instagram and Twitter posts by saying: “I’ll never forget my travels to Kathmandu during the filming of the #StoryofGod, and the kindness that I was shown when fully immersing myself in the traditions of Dashain!”
The post received thousands of likes and comments on all three platforms with many people sending their love, appreciating his Nepali attire and asking him to visit the country again.
Khagendra Shrestha wrote on Twitter: “If you could only speak the Nepali language, no one would be able to distinguish you that you are not a Nepali. The costume suits you greatly.”
Another user, Aryal Saroj, invited him back to Nepal and said: “You are a Gem of the Hollywood Film Industry. Thanks for visiting Nepal. Dashain is back again. It is time to visit again.”
Others appreciated him for sharing Nepali culture. A Facebook user, Shobika Gaire, commented on his post and said: “Sharing Nepalese culture and tradition with the rest of the world has added one more reason to admire you as a person with a golden heart. Love from Nepal.”
People poured out their love for the actor and his show on the posts.
‘Story of God' is an American television documentary series that premiered on National Geographic Channel in 2016. In the three seasons, Freeman explored various cultures and religions, taking on the streets around the world to understand various people’s takes on religion-related topics. He sought to uncover the meaning of God, life and other big questions that puzzle humanity. However, his dates of visit to Nepal are unknown.
The show featured Nepal when Freeman visited the house of the living goddess (Kumari) and took her blessings. Additionally, he also visited a Buddhist temple to understand Vajrayana, which is a branch of Buddhism, and was seen reciting mantras with him.
Here are some pictures he shared on his social media accounts.
