Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has extended his deepest condolences over the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the world's longest-serving monarch who died on Thursday, aged 96.
Soon after Buckingham Palace announced her death at 1730 GMT, Prime Minister Deuba tweeted: "It is with great sadness I have received the news of her passing (away). Queen Elizabeth II distinguished herself with duty, honour and service. The Queen is fondly remembered in Nepal for her two important state visits in 1961 and 1986."
Within seconds, Deuba added a follow-up tweet: "The grace, simplicity and respect for other cultures and humanity are the qualities for which the Nepalese people fondly remember the Queen. In her death, Nepal has lost a great admirer of the country and its people. I express deepest condolences to the Royal Family."
The Palace statement said: "The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon."
Deuba's tweet condoling the death of the British Queen triggered varied responses from Nepalis at home and abroad.
Like the PM, Nepalis from different walks of life are taking to social media platforms to pay tribute to the British monarch who grew up in palaces and castles guarded by Gurkha soldiers from Nepal - who started serving with the British in early 1800s.
