Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China, Li Zhanshu, has arrived on an official visit to Nepal today. 

Soon after arriving in Kathmandu on a special aircraft, Li’s delegation has started holding bilateral talks with Nepali lawmakers and political leaders.

Li is visiting Nepal at the invitation of Speaker of the House of Representatives, Agni Prasad Sapkota. Speaker Sapkota received Li at the airport. High officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were present on the occasion.

Speaker Sapkota and Li will hold delegation-level bilateral meeting at the Federal Parliament Building, New Baneshwor later today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said. The Speaker will host a dinner in honour of CPC Chairperson Li and the members of his delegation at the Hotel Soaltee tonight.

Li will also pay courtesy call on President Bidya Devi Bhandari and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, separately, during his four-day visit here.

He will meet with Chairperson of the National Assembly Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, and Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Narayan Khadka will pay a courtesy call on Li same day. K P Sharma Oli, former Prime Minister and Chairman of CPN-UML, and Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, former Prime Minister and Chairman of CPN-Maoist Centre will also hold separate meetings with Li on September 13.

The Chinese delegation will make an observation visit to the Bhaktapur Durbar area to see the structures reconstructed after the 2015 Gorkha Earthquake. Li's delegation comprises of 67 persons including six high-ranking officers, security personnel, journalists and other staff. CPC Chairperson Li and his delegation will return home on September 15 on a special flight. -RSS
