Nepal Telecom on Wednesday expanded its 4G service to remote location in Byas Rural Municipality in Darchula district.

The newly launched service will benefit around 120 households, comprising more than 700 Nepali citizens in Chhangru and 4,000 people from other areas in the country's farwest district.

The areas around Chhangru, including Kalapani, Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura, Tinker and areas bordering India, will be connected to the 4G network via a microwave radio link from its repeater station located at Mahakali Municipality, the state-owned utility said in a statement.

“Band 20 4G here is on 800 MHz frequency which will provide quality voice and data service to people living in the remote place,” it said, adding that the service expansion was carried out as per the government policy to expand the connectivity to remote places in the country.

The telecom operator said it airlifted the equipment from Khalanga at Darchula - a distance 45 kilometres - .

The Nepal Government has its offices in Chhangru which also houses a Nepali Armed Police Force base camp.
