The government has announced that the country will observe the ‘Visit Nepal Decade’ starting next year to give a leg-up to the ailing tourism sector in the country.
According to Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Suresh Adhikari, a decision has been made to celebrate the ‘Visit Nepal Decade’ to activate and revive the tourism sector, which is struggling to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic.
The main objective of the decision is to increase the number of foreign tourists and promote tourism in coordination and collaboration with the private sector, according to Secretary Adhikari.
Addressing Nepal Hospitality Conclave-2022, an event organised by the Hotel Association Nepal (HAN) on Saturday, Adhikari said a meeting of the Council of Ministers had decided to celebrate the year 2023 to 2033 as the ‘Visit Nepal Decade.
The government had declared 2020 as the Visit Nepal Year, setting the target of bringing around two million tourists into the country. However, the Visit Nepal Year campaign was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The ministry has also made public the tourism revival action plan, giving an official nod to the celebration. However, it has yet to reveal what programmes will be carried out during the Visit Nepal Decade.
The Nepal Tourism Board data shows a total of 230,085 foreign tourists arrived in Nepal in 2021.
