Nepal Minute - out of the ordinary

The Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) has promised to enhance its ground handling services to meet international standards.

The national flag carrier has measured its ground handling, aligning them with international standards after an International Air Transport Association (IATA) Audit – its first since 2016.

All ground handling services, including load control, passenger and baggage handling, aircraft handling and loading, organisation and management, and aircraft ground movement, are certified by the IATA Safety Audit for Ground Operations (ISAGO), NAC Spokesperson Archana Khadka said in a statement released on Thursday.

The ISAGO audit, carried out every two years, is given to the airlines that comply with international standards. Only those carriers fulfilling the required criteria during the ISAGO Audit and inspections are awarded the ISAGO Certificate.

The national carrier has hailed the move as a success.

“Amid limited infrastructure, the NAC has provided international quality services. The NAC is committed to ensuring better services through gradual reforms in its services,” the statement added.

Ground handling is one of the key sources of income for the national flag carrier. The NAC provides such services at the Tribhuvan International Airport and Gautam Buddha International Airport.

The carrier has also assumed the ground handling responsibilities at Pokhara Regional International Airport. It is scheduled to come into operation from January 1, 2023.
