Police have arrested three people on suspicion of their involvement in the murder of businessman Mohammad Darji in Gothatar, Kathmandu, on September 19.
According to the District Police Range Kathmandu, three suspects were arrested from their hideouts in Kathmandu and Birgunj on Friday after obtaining a warrant from the District Court in Kathmandu.
Mahoram Mia, 21, and Rehan Mia, 19, both from Birgunj; and Sushmita Sangtang, 21, of Kapan were paraded at the police command during a press conference in the capital on Friday.
Miya confessed to having supplied the weapon used in the crime. Syangtan has been accused of keeping a watch on the victim in the lead-up to the incident.
During interrogation, Mia said he had reached Birgunj a day before the incident after handing weapons to the shooter in Kathmandu to kill Darji, according to Senior Superintendent of Police Bharat Bahadur Bohara.
On September 19 evening, an unidentified person chased Darji, aka Lal Mohammad, 58, and shot him outside his factory at Gothatar in Kageshwori Manohara-8.
Darji, who sustained bullet injuries to his chest, head and abdomen, was rushed to the nearby Shankarapur Hospital. However, as the treatment was not possible there, he was referred to the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj, where he died later that night.
Darji was earlier convicted of running a counterfeit currency racket and homicide. He was convicted and sentenced to eight years and seven months in 2007.
Police had recovered a pistol marked made in the USA, a magazine, four rounds of bullets, and four cartridges from the crime scene.
