Candidacy nomination registration for the November 20 elections to the House of Representatives and the Province Assembly under the first-past-the-post system has begun.
Candidates began registering their nominations through their respective election offices across the country, said Shaligram Sharma Paudel, spokesperson for the Election Commission.
Registration began at 10 am on Sunday and will conclude at 5 pm. Candidates can register their nominations through the respective EC office by themselves or through their representatives. Under the system, a total of 165 seats under the HoR and 330 seats under the Province Assembly will be contested in the polls.
The election schedule published by the commission states that the list of candidates whose nomination papers are registered on Sunday will be published from 5 to 7 pm the same day. The time for filing complaints against the candidates is from 10 am to 3 pm on October 10, and the time for examining and deciding on nomination papers and complaints is on Monday from 3 to 5 pm.
Similarly, the draft list of candidates will be published on Tuesday from 5 pm to 7 pm, the time to withdraw the candidacy is on October 12 from 10 am to 1 pm and the final list of candidates will be published from 1 pm to 3 pm on the October 12, election symbols will be provided to the candidates from 4 pm on the same day.
The commission has already established 165 election officers with 77 chief returning officers and 88 returning officers for the November 20 elections.
Meanwhile, the commission has published the closed list of candidates for the proportional election system. - RSS
