Nepal Minute - out of the ordinary

Nepal

Chitwan Medical College has lodged a formal complaint against nearly a dozen individuals who it said were involved in vandalising its Intensive Care Unit facility last week.

The group of youth vandalised the ICU and even manhandled health workers last Tuesday October 6, a day after the death of Ramesh Kunwar, 36, who was suffering from high-blood pressure and illness related to pancreas.

They also scuffled with the police when they came to stop them.

The deceased patient’s friends and relatives had blamed the hospital’s negligence for Kunwar’s death.

The video of the patient’s relatives vandalising the ICU went viral on social media too.

Police are currently searching for the accused named in the complaint.

If found guilty, the attackers could face up to three years of imprisonment, or a fine of three hundred thousand, or both, in accordance with a new law introduced to ensure safety of health workers and health institutions.

Additionally, the assailants could face additional fines to compensate damages caused to the hospital’s equipment and property.
