Departmental sides dominated fencing events, winning two of the three gold medals decided at the ninth National Games on Tuesday. 

A total of six gold medals have been decided in fencing, with three being decided earlier on Sunday. 

In the all-departmental fencing men’s individual saber final held at the badminton court in Pokhara Stadium on Tuesday, Rajendra Gajurel of the Armed Police Force won the gold. 

He defeated Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) fencer Upendra Bahadur Shai to take the gold medal in the fencing men's individual saber.

Gajurel, silver medallist in team event at the seventh National Games and silver in the team event and single-two at the eighth National Games. TAC's Raghuveer Chand and Armed Police Force's Khemraj Khatri won bronze medals.

In the women’s foil, TAC's Rama Kumari Singh won the gold medal with a victory over Manisha Rai of the APF in the final. Mandira Thapa and Anita Adhikari of the APF won bronze medals.

In the men's epee competition, Omkar Singh of Bagmati Province won the gold medal, beating TAC's Ram Thapa in the final. Min Karki of TAC and Vijay Adhikari of Gandaki Pradesh won bronze medals. Adhikari became the first player from Gandaki to win a medal at these Games.

Gandaki women post second win in handball

Gandaki Province have secured their second successive win in the women's handball competition under the ninth National Games.

In a match held at the multi-purpose covered hall at Pokhara Stadium on Tuesday, Gandaki defeated Sudurpaschim 27-4 to take their tally to 6 points. Earlier on Sunday, riding on Yogita Gurung’s eight goals, Gandaki had beaten Karnali by a wide margin of 58-20. 

Karnali scored an 11-7 win over Madhes Pradesh in a closely-fought second match on Tuesday. Anjali Shahi and Sangeeta Singh each scored five goals to give Karnali three crucial points.

It was Madhes’ second defeat in a row after a 46-2 loss to Tribhuvan Army Club in their opening match. Karnali lost 4-26 against Province-1 in the first match.

In another Group B match, Province 1 defeated Bagmati Province by 24-8. Province 1, who had earlier beaten Karnali 26-4 in their opening match on Monday, have taken their tally to 6 points. Preksha Katuwal of Province 1 was the top scorer in the match with 8 goals.

Bagmati Province registered a 21-13 victory over Madhes Pradesh in the men's handball competition at the Pokhara Stadium covered hall on Tuesday. 

Sonam Rakesh Sherpa was the top scorer with five gaols in the match as Bagmati bounced back from their 43-8 opening loss to Tribhuvan Army Club to collect their first three points. 

It was the second successive loss for Madhes, after a 66-13 defeat to Tribhuvan Army Club in their first match.
