NRNA team's Ashley Sapkota won four gold medals in the swimming event at the ongoing ninth National Games.

The contest held at the Fishtail Academy, Pokhara on Sunday, the swimmer claimed her first gold,  completing the 100m SC freestyle in 1 minute 1.42 seconds. 

Anushiya Tandukar of Tribhuwan Nepal Army and Megan Gurung of Nepal Police Club settled for silver and bronze, respectively.

Sapkota clinched a second gold in the 800m SC freestyle, with a winning time of 10 minutes 30.64 seconds. Nepal Police Club’s Aarya Maharjan secured silver and Sameer Shova Thapa Magar took bronze.

She returned to the pool again to add her third gold in the 200m backstroke in 2 minutes 36.4 seconds. Arju Thapamgar of Bagmati won silver and Upasana Rai of Province 1 took bronze. 

Sapkota claimed her fourth gold by completing the 50m butterfly in 30 seconds. Duwana Lama of Nepal Army grabbed silver and Nepal Police’s Megan Gurung settled for bronze.

Men’s swimming

The departmental sides dominated the pool, winning five out of the six medals on offer on Sunday.

In the 200m SC backstroke, Tehzinnamdol Ryan Gurung secured gold medal and Sauren Bahadur Singh took bronze for APF. Prarambha Bhandari of Province 1 took silver.

Alex Shah and Nasir Yaha Hussain bagged gold and silver for the Tribhuwan Nepal Army in the 100m SC freestyle. Shakarsana Bahadur Rajhubanshi of Nepal Police Club took bronze.

Bodybuilding

Gandaki Province and Nepal Police Club claimed gold medals in the Games’ bodybuilding events on Sunday.

In the 55kg category, Gandaki Provnice’s Bibek Hamal took home gold. Dinesh Gosai of Bagmati and Ramesh Nepal of Tribhuwan Army Club secured silver and bronze, respectively.

Nepal Police Club’s David Balami clinched gold in the 60kg category. APF’s Kishan Diwakar took home silver and Suni Ale of Lumbini Province bagged bronze.

In the 65kg category, Gandaki’s Ashim Garunge won gold while Nawaraj Dumre from Lumbini and Sunil Chand from Sudur Paschim took silver and bronze.

Nepal Army’s Prajwol Man Shakya brought home gold while Madhesh’s Karan Yadav and Lumbini’s Birendra Man Shrestha settled for Silver and Bronze.

In the final event of the day, the 75kg category medals were distributed with Naresh Malakar of Nepal Army bagging gold, Sani Ajam of Madhesh getting silver and Yogesh Raj Shahi bringing bronze for Bagmati.

Women’s volleyball

Bagmati Province advanced to the quarter-finals of the women’s volleyball tournament after winning three consecutive sets against Madhesh Province on Sunday afternoon.
Earlier in the day, APF overcame Tribhuwan Army Club 3-1 to go top of their group.

Those results completed the quarter-finals line-up for Monday, with AFP taking on Lumbini Province; Bagmati squaring off with Sudurpaschim; Nepal Police Club facing Tribhuwan Army Club; and Gandaki Province meeting Province 1.
