Nepal Minute - out of the ordinary

Three Nepali sides have qualified for the PUBG Mobile Global Championship (PMGC) 2022 where 48 top teams from the world contest for a purse of $4 million in November.

Top-seeded Mongolian side GodLike Stalwart lived up to their billing to win the 2022 PUBG MOBILE Pro League (PMPL) South Asia Championship Fall and a winners’ cheque for $40,000, on Sunday night. They also won the most valuable player award and $2,000.

Nepali sides DRS Gaming, Skylightz Gaming and Trained to Kill finished runners-up, third and fifth respectively.

The games were also beamed live at QFX theatre, Chhaya Centre in Thamel – the first time ever in Nepal.  Local esports fans enjoyed watching 16 teams battle it out in thrilling 24 games over four days.

DRS Gaming went into the final round, leading with 223 points on the back of 94 kills and three Winner Winner Chicken Dinners. But a string of poor showings put paid to their chances saw them finish with 256 points, eight adrift of Godlike Stalwart to settle for second place and $28,000.

“We were under pressure, going for big points today and made several mistakes  in the process,” a member of DRS Gaming said after the match. “We hope to perform better at the PMGC 2022.”

The PMGC 2022 will be the first LAN event for the global championship as the past two editions were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

SkyLightz Gaming climbed one place up from the overnight fourth to finish on 231 points, two above fourth-placed Pakistani side Agon i8 Esports.

With GodLike Stalwart and Agon i8 Esports already securing their places in the PMGC 2022 through PMPL rankings in Spring and Autumn, Nepali side T2K had a lucky break as they joined DRS and SkyLightz to the global championship.
