Tribhuvan Army Club’s Nasir Yaha Hussain bagged two gold medals in the men’s swimming competition under the ninth National Games.

Competing in the 200m freestyle and 200m individual medley at the Fishtail Academy, Pokhara on Monday, Hussain won both the races setting new national records.

Husssain completed the 200m freestyle in 1 minute and 55.39 seconds, breaking his own record of 1 minute 58.30 seconds set at the 15th FINA World Swimming Championship in 2021.

Alex Shah of Tribhuvan Army secured silver and Ervin Shrestha of Bagmati bagged bronze.
Returning to the pool for the 200m individual medley, Hussain collected another gold.

He improved on his own previous record of 2:11.83 seconds, also set at the 15th FINA World Swimming Championship 2021, clocking 2:11.23 seconds.

Asish Sapkota of NRNA and Seren Singh of Bagmati took home silver and bronze.

Women’s Swimming

Duana Lama of Tribhuvan Army match Nasir also set a new national record in 50m breaststroke event.

Lama bettered her own national record of 35.46 seconds at the 13th South Asian Games, clocking 35.23 seconds to claim the gold medal in the event.

APF’s Royal Prajapati settled for silver and Upasti Maharjan of Tribhuwan Army took bronze.

Men’s Volleyball

On Monday Sudur Paschim defeated NRNA 3-0 to book their place in the quarter-finals of the men’s volleyball competition under the ninth National Games.

With the group stages coming to an end, the top two teams from all four groups have advanced to the last eight beginning on Tuesday.

Nepal Police Club and Lumbini Province have made it to the quarters from Group A, Tribhuvan Army and Province 1 from Group B, APF and Sudur Paschim from Group C and Gandaki and Bagmati Province from Group D.
