Three furniture industries in Dang were ravaged in a fire that broke out on Tuesday, causing losses of around Rs10 million. No injuries or casualties were reported from the incident.

New Daju Bhai Furniture, Daju Bhai Furniture and State Daju Bhahi Furniture on Shahid Umeshmarg of Ghorahi Sub-metropolitan City-15 were destroyed in the fire that was sparked by an electric short-circuit, according to the police.

The fire is said to have started around 1 am in a furniture store, and within no time, the flames spread to adjacent properties. It was brought under control at 7 am.

Ramesh Pandey, the chairperson of Ghorahi Sub-metropolitan City-15, said that the fire brigade of Ghorahi, Tulsipur and Lamhi brought the fire under control.

The preliminary police inquiry suggests a short circuit caused the fire at Mahesh Sharma's furniture industry at 12:50 am.

Personnel from Nepal Police, Armed Police Forces, and neighbours assisted in bringing the fire under control, said Superintendent Bir Bahadur Oli, the chief of the District Police Office, Dang.

SP Oli said that they were gathering details of the incident. The preliminary estimate suggests the fire destroyed property worth around Rs10 million. There were no reports of casualties.

According to Rup Narayan Sharma, one of the furniture factory owners, the fire broke out suddenly when everyone went to sleep after the Lakshmi Puja ritual.

The fire quickly engulfed all three properties, reducing everything to cinders, including Rs7.5 million cash in the room and another half a million he had kept in a cash box to pay for workers' wages and his son's fees, Sharma said. - RSS
